Get Ready Before Hit the Road: How to Apply for Travel Permit?

Foreigners who wish to travel to areas that are not open to foreigners must submit an application to relevant authorities for review and approval before any such travel permit is issued.

Required Documents

The original Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form along with a recent color photo (bare-headed, full face) taken against a white background, sized at 35mm×53mm.

The original reception plan, specifying in detail the self-driving tourist group’s number, number of members, number of vehicles, time of entry and exit, as well as contact person and phone number of the travel agency.

The route and itinerary of the trip (date, route, road condition, schedule), member information (name, gender, nationality, date of birth, passport number, occupation), and vehicle information (license plate number, brand, country of origin, type, model, year of production, vehicle identification number, engine number, color, number of seats, fuel type, displacement, weight) must be provided for the application.

Notice

The applicant shall ensure that the application information provided is accurate and truthful.

The travel agency shall submit its reception plan to the entry and exit administration authority of the provincial-level public security department where the travel agency is located at least 60 days before the group enters the country.

Foreign travelers who plan to use their own vehicles during their visit to China shall be received by licensed Chinese travel agencies.

Original copies of application documents must be submitted for verification.
